Covid-19 Pathway to Competition 2021

South West Women’s Lacrosse Competitions 2020/21

August 2020

As we are currently unable to run our usual League tournaments, we have organised a series of 'friendly' matches during the Autumn between club teams and universities from across the region. These will be full-length home/away fixtures and the full schedule can be seen below. We hope to be able to return to our league tournaments in the New Year but will always operate within the EL guidelines and protocols to keep everyone safe.

July 2020

Due to the current and possible ongoing restrictions in place as a result of COVID-19, the SWWL competitions will most likely require a different format and additional considerations until at least January 2021. Restrictions and guidance on social distancing with regards to the return to sport are being regularly published by the government. However, England Lacrosse must submit plans to the DCMS for approval before any changes to the format of lacrosse can be made. These changes could occur regularly, or sporadically, and government guidance must be adhered to at all times.

As guidance continues to move towards more relaxed restrictions, plans for the South West lacrosse competitions are now being undertaken. These plans will be split into the following phases:

Intent to compete

Clubs/teams will be asked to confirm their intent to compete in the upcoming season, and that they understand the format of the competition can and will change as government guidance changes. (w/c 13thJuly)

Outline of competitive season

When teams have confirmed their intent to compete, an outline of the start, finish and proposed regularity of competitive fixtures for the season will be released. (w/c 27thJuly)

Entry

Teams will then be able to enter the competitions with as much up to date information that can be provided at that point in time. Teams will be provided with information documents and guidance that they must agree to adhere to before completing their entry into the league. (w/c 3rdAugust)

Fixture scheduling

Team entry for the leagues will close at the end of August. Fixtures will then be confirmed and distributed to the teams by w/c 7thSeptember.

At this point in time, fixtures will not be expected to start until mid October at the very earliest.

Please complete and submit this ‘Intent to Compete’ Google form by Sunday 19thJuly in order to be included in our plans and so we have some idea of what competitions teams would like to participate in. https://forms.gle/MVtU8A2m8Waq7V4dA

If you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Please remember to keep checking the EL website for the most up to date information and guidance. https://www.englandlacrosse.co.uk/coronavirus
